What is Mystery Shopping?


Retailers and brands want to know how real consumers perceive the customer contact. That is why Multi-Value is called in to record these experiences. In order to make this happen we have a community of real consumers: Mystery shoppers. In every situation with a customer the experience of the customer matters: automotive, retail, catering, government, medical sector, bank and insurance, etc.

The mystery shopper is a regular consumer and only does what a regular consumer would do: shopping for groceries, making inquiries, exchange an incorrect purchase, get advised about a new outfit, search for information on a website, etc. The experiences and impressions are recorded in a survey afterwards. Through the internet Multi-Value suggests consumers to voluntarily visit its website and take part in surveys within their daily situation as a consumer.

You are compensated for completing the survey online. Depending on the survey we can also refund expenses. Test purchases will also be refunded. All this information is set out in the briefing. It is important to know that this is not income.

STEP 1: Becoming a member of the community

You only have to register once.
You can do so by using the link below. As soon as you are registered, you will see all the mystery visit assignments you can choose from.

All data shared with us will only be used by Multi-Value and are protected.
Your details will never be shared with our customers or with third parties.

STEP 2: 
Being a candidate

After you are registered, you can volunteer as a candidate for a visit. You can do so online on your computer or with our app on your smartphone. It will also contain a short briefing with more information.

Our project managers will then assign the visits to different candidates.

If it is the first time you go mystery shopping, they will also briefly talk to you on the phone. It will give us the opportunity to meet you and answer your questions.

STEP 3: 
Going shopping

As soon as a mystery visit is assigned to you by the project manager, you will also see the details.

You always go as an ordinary consumer and on the day you suggested.

You also follow the different aspects of the scenario.

If you have to make a purchase, keep the ticket, because you will have to give it to us.


STEP 4: 
Sharing your experience

After your mystery visit we expect a report of your experiences within 24 hours. You can do this online via computer, tablet or smartphone.

When we receive your experiences, they will be checked by our validators.


STEP 5: 
The compensation


When your report is approved, we automatically pay the compensation (to cover your expenses) and any refund of a test purchase, as described in the briefing. Make sure to correctly enter your payment information.

This is a small and occasional compensation for your time and effort, and is not considered ‘income’.

What does a mystery shopper do?

The mystery shopper is a regular consumer and only does what a regular consumer would do: shopping for groceries, making inquiries, exchange an incorrect purchase, get advised about a new outfit, search for information on a website, etc. The experiences and impressions are recorded in a survey afterwards.
Filling in a survey depends on the type of research. In general, this will not take longer than 5 to 15 minutes. The time for the visit is the time you spend as a consumer. You will obviously respect the business’ opening hours.

What can I earn?

Multi-Value conducts research for businesses in the following sectors: automotive, retail, catering, government, medical, bank and insurance, etc. who want to find out about the opinion of their consumers. You are compensated for completing the survey online. Depending on the research we can also refund expenses and pay a compensation. Test purchases can also be refunded. This is usually an amount between € 5 and € 20.
These are rather small and occasional compensations which cannot be your main source of income, and are just a compensation for your dedication and time. For each study we will inform you about the assignment and the compensation. You are always free to decide whether or not you want to participate. We pay by direct bank transfer in the first week of the month following your mystery visit after a completed survey which meets all criteria.

How will Multi-Value contact me?

We usually communicate by e-mail. In exceptional cases, when it is really urgent, we can also contact you by phone.

How will you receive our assignments?

We will send you a weekly e-mail with our outstanding assignments. To receive these e-mails you have to be registered at Multi-Value. However, we cannot guarantee that assignments will be available that match your profile. Our mystery shoppers are characterised by motivation, seriousness, accuracy, commercial spirit and sense of observation. Our project managers will check whether you meet these characteristics. You are always free to either or not apply for outstanding assignments which we propose to you by e-mail. If you are selected, you will receive a briefing with all the details.

Do I have to advance cash?

The briefing explains how to make the visit. Most visits will smoothly fit into your consumer pattern, for other visits you do not have to make a purchase, but ask for information, for instance. If, exceptionally, you do have to pay for something, you will be refunded or the compensation of the assignment will take into account advances or expenses.

Are your bank data safe?

We pay compensations through bank transfer onto an account in the euro zone + Switzerland. In order to pay you we ask you for your IBAN and BIC code. This information does not give us the opportunity to withdraw money from your account. This information, as well as your personal data will be stored on a secured server. In order to pay you automatically, these data must be correctly filled in on your “personal profile”.

Personal details and Privacy.

Your personal details are for use by Multi-Value only. We only use this information for internal use and do not communicate it under any circumstances to third parties. Neither do we give your details to our customers, unless you explicitly agree.
SPAM: If you are registered at Multi-Value you accept receiving e-mails with outstanding assignments. These are automatically composed and sent. As a result of your registration you will not receive commercial e-mails from third parties and we do not give out or sell your personal details. You are always entitled to access and amend your personal details.
